In Malaysia, an entertainment license is a permit that allows you to hold entertainment events or operate entertainment venues at specific locations. These entertainment venues can include bars, nightclubs, discotheques, theaters, performance venues, amusement parks, etc., while entertainment activities may involve music performances, dance shows, movie screenings, concerts, celebrations, and more.

Here are some factors and steps to consider when applying for an entertainment license:

Business Registration Certificate

This certifies that your business is registered and legally operating in Malaysia. It demonstrates your eligibility to operate entertainment venues or hold related events.

Once you have submitted the complete application materials, government departments will review your application. They may conduct on-site inspections to ensure that your venue complies with relevant regulations and standards. If your application is approved, you will receive an entertainment license, allowing you to operate entertainment venues or hold entertainment activities legally.

For example, a bar owner wants to open a new bar in the downtown area of a Malaysian city. They would need to prepare their business registration certificate, venue lease agreement, detailed activity plan (including music performances, themed parties, etc.), safety facilities plan (including fire equipment, security measures, etc.), and pay the relevant application fees. After submitting the application, the local government department will review and may conduct on-site inspections. If everything meets the requirements, the owner will obtain an entertainment license, allowing them to legally operate the bar in the area.
